Elegant Tuscany Hotel - Villa Mangiacane is a stunning 15th century Renaissance villa perfectly poised amid rolling Tuscan hills, built by the powerful Machiavelli family overlooking the city of Florence and rich with the warmth of a private home.

Cuisine is courtesy of executive chef Massimo Bocus and can be enjoyed in the dining room or by the villa's rose gardens or infinity pool. Villa Mangiacane boasts 3 pools, restaurant and a set of individually decorated rooms and suites, half with private gardens and pool.
Art forms an intrinsic part of the estate. The garden is enriched with Isaac Kaan's bronze sculptures and Shona Art and the villa interior is adorned with period Renaissance frescoes.

By Air: Florence Airport 20 minutes from Villa Mangiacane
Enter on Highway A11 (following green signs) and take exit for A1; then go South towards Rome and take the 2nd exit, Firenze Certosa. Drive on the SS 2 towards Tavarnuzze (blue signs) and do NOT take the superstrada Firenze-Siena!*You will drive through the town of Tavarnuzze until you reach a restaurant on your left called 'Scopeti', directly after this restaurant you will find a stone bridge on you right and the sign to S. Andrea in Percussina. Turn right over the little bridge and follow for about 3 kilometers and drive through the small village S. Andrea in Percussina, until you reach a stop sign. At the stop sign turn right. You'll see on your right a big terracotta villa- Villa Mangiacane and enter the first driveway on your right. The gates statues of Nepolitano mastiffs on the gate posts - you have arrived!
By Air: Pisa Airport is 50 minutes from Villa Mangiacane
Get on the freeway and follow the direction to Florence . Then enter the highway towards Roma (A1) and exit at "Firenze-Certosa." Drive on the SS 2 towards Tavarnuzze (blue signs) and do NOT take the superstrada Firenze-Siena! *Follow directions above...
By Train: The closest Train station is Santa Maria Novella into Florence city centre 20 minutes away. To reach Villa Mangiacane from the train station we recommend taxi's, The SITA bus service or a rental car.
Follow signs to Siena and drive towards the Certosa passing through the town of Galluzzo. When you find the Certosa on your right, continue driving on the main road till you arrive to the entrance of the highway (a big roundabout); do not enter the highway or the superstrada, just go towards Tavarnuzze (blue signs) and do NOT take the superstrada Firenze-Siena! *Follow directions above...

Signature dishes include red tuna fillet in sesame crust with extra virgin mash and tomatoes with orange marmalade, as well as braised beef calf cooked in white wine vinsanto and shallots.

Wine and Olive Oil
Fine Italian wines and oils produced on the estate
Located just 12 kilometers outside of Florence, Villa Mangiacane's 300 hectares are situated in the communes of San Casciano Val di Pesa and Greve in Chianti . The vineyards - at altitudes of 250 to 300 metres - are on clay soils, rich in scheletro and stones in Greve, cooler and deeper in San Casciano. Staying at Villa Mangiacane offers the perfect opportunity for tasting Tuscany wine.
The estate currently has 41 hectares planted to vines - Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino and Merlot - of which 30 hectares were planted in the 1980s at densities of 3,000 plants per hectare; the remaining 11 hectares have been planted since 1992, at a higher density of 5,680 plants per hectare.
The vineyards' diverse exposures (north to north-west in the San Casciano area, and south in Greve) create different microclimates, guaranteeing the wines' complexity and character.
Mangiacane Extra Virgin Olive Oil is part of its history , as is evident from the ancient measuring casts and old frontoio with its big wheel, still on display.
Villa Mangiacane's olive groves cover approximately 20 hectares of the estate's gentle hills. The 6,000 trees are divided between the Frantoio, Moraiolo, Leccino and Pendolino cultivars. Since 2001 the Villa has been pressing the olives in its own mill: this ensures that batches of olives are picked and pressed within the same day - usually between the end of October and beginning of November - and their fruity oil bears witness to this, famous for its distinctly peppery notes.

Continuing a centuries' old tradition
Throughout the centuries it has been tradition for Italian nobility to be patrons to great artists. Villa Mangiacane stays true to this by sponsoring on-site artists from Zimbabwe and abroad, and numerous art exhibition openings.
Half the profits go to deserving African charities, such as the Sharon Cohen School for mentally handicapped children. The remaining profits are reinvested to support the Shona Art sculptors in Zimbabwe, and to promote their work by enabling them to gain international recognition and exposure.
As you linger amongst the myriad of masterpieces in the 'Giardino delle scultura' with its backdrop of nature, enjoy a spectrum of art including Lithuanian Cubism and Zimbabwean Shona sculptures.
